Ministries

At Valley View, we are a church of the community for the community.
We find every avenue we can to lend a helping hand. Contact us today to
find out how to get involved with any of our ministries described here!

Community Food Bank

We serve our community once a month (usually the first Friday) by unloading, sorting, packing up and distributing food orders in front of the church. All are welcome to help and to get food! This ministry, “Isaiah’s Kitchen,” takes place from 8am-4pm and is an active & fun time to tangibly care for others.

Children’s Ministry

We love children and babies and consider them a blessing! They’re welcome at Sunday service and may participate in Children’s sermon time. We are building a Sunday Children’s ministry for our little ones 0-10 years old which will offer them an opportunity to leave the service for care, play, snack and spiritual learning and nurturing.

Nurturing & Discipleship

Our members lead a weekly Bible Study on Saturdays at 6pm via conference call. We study different books and themes of the Bible. All are welcome to join in this collaborative group!

Youth Ministry

We serve the young people of our church who are in 6th grade through 12th grade with socials gatherings for them to eat, play, grow and learn with their peers. We go on outings, travel in the summer, and generally have a good time! Our goal is create a supportive environment in which youth can feel safe and know God’s love.

Building and Grounds Ministry

Our building and grounds committee works hard to keep Valley View functioning so the facility can open up for community use and events in addition to our church gatherings. They’re also responsible for caring for the gardens and grounds, have recently replaced the boiler and furnace, and secured grants for refurbishing our beautiful stained glass windows!

SALT Ministry (Finance Ministry)

Stewardship, Action, Leadership Team: This committee is responsible for overseeing the finances of the church and ensuring accountability for budgeting and spending in faithfulness to our community’s mission.

Usher Ministry

The pandemic hit our usher ministry especially hard and Valley View is in need of committed people to restore this ministry. Ushers care for guests as they enter the building for Worship and events, offering them important information, directing them to seating, answering questions, and making sure they have whatever they need to be comfortable while in the building.

Outreach Ministry

We feel God calls us to love every person! As we move beyond the pandemic years, we are carefully considering what our outreach ministry will look like beyond the community-supporting ministries listed above.

Affiliated/Connected Ministries

Garfield Community Farm

The Garfield Community Farm supplies our food bank with food grown on their site just two blocks away! It provides fresh produce and educational opportunities with our neighbors and seeks to demonstrate God’s restoration of creation through urban agriculture in Garfield. Church members participated in its founding, are employed by the farm, and sit on the board.

Open Hand Ministry

Valley View participated in its founding and sit on the board and some of our church members have benefited from its mission. The organization exists to empower black families in Pittsburgh to build multi-generational wealth through improved financial management skills and support on the path to achieving their financial goals. They facilitate affordable home ownership opportunities by acquiring vacant properties and rehabbing them to superior energy and quality standards for families whose goal is homeownership.

High Hope

“High Hope” Narcotics Anonymous group meets in person at the church in the activity room on Wednesdays from 1pm-2:30pm to be supportive and uplifting for our community.

You are welcome to join in on any of our wonderful ministries!
